Traveling to Canmore or Banff with kids? Finding a restaurant that works for the whole family, without breaking the bank or melting down over the menu, can be tough. We spent a week in Banff this winter with our two kids, and these are the spots that made everyone happy (including us parents).
Our family enjoys finding restaurants where we can try local or unique foods, but we don’t typically eat out for every meal on our trips or try adventurous foods every day. There were plenty of mornings where we hit the local Mcdonald’s drive thru for quick early morning pancakes before a hike.
We’ve pulled together a list of the restaurants we most enjoyed in Canmore – think takeout pizza, tacos, local eats like poutine, and cozy pubs. You’ll find some of our favorite dishes and ways we save on costs while dining out!

Canmore Family-Friendly Restaurants
1. Rocky Mountain Bagel Co
Rocky Mountain Bagel Co. was our go-to breakfast place. We walked here from our rental. They have house-made bagels, breakfast sandwiches, treats, and great coffee. The staff were super kind and actually gave us a bag of their day-old bagels to take home.
They have unique and delicious bagel sandwiches, and their caramel latte is the best around. The kids loved the hot chocolate and the views out the windows!
2. Red Rock Pizza Company
Red Rock Pizza Company is a local favorite for creative pizzas and quick, friendly service. We took our pizza to Vermillion Lakes and had a picnic while we watched the Northern Lights! 10/10 would recommend their garlic pizza bread with a light show. *chef’s kiss*
3. Marra’s Way Sushi
Marra’s Way Sushi is a casual and affordable sushi bar with fresh rolls. This was our son’s favorite restaurant, so we actually ate here twice.
On our second visit we took our sushi to go and had a picnic on the Bow River near the Canmore Engine Bridge. We ate along the frozen edge of the river and watched the sunset over the Rocky Mountains. This was one of my favorite moments of the trip!
4. Das Schnitzelhaus
Das Schnitzelhaus is an authentic German restaurant offering comfort food in a welcoming, family-run spot. Our kids loved the giant pretzels, but this restaurant can be expensive if everyone gets an entree.
They had real German Pilsner and delicious schnitzel. It was super easy to take to go, and they have a fun outdoor patio to use while you wait for your food.
5. Graze Food & Drink
Graze Food & Drink is a trendy spot with a great patio and a yummy chicken sandwich. This is also a great place to try the Canadian treat, poutine. Our kids didn’t love it, but it’s fun to at least try the local, unique foods!
6. Canadian Pizza Unlimited
Canadian Pizza Unlimited is a great budget-friendly option with yummy gluten-free pizza. We took our pizza to the park and enjoyed beautiful views of the iconic Three Sisters mountains.

Bonus: Kid-friendly Restaurants in Banff Town
We were based in Canmore for our trip, but went into Banff town for dinner twice on our day trips. We parked our rental car in the main parking area and walked to both of these restaurants.
7. Magpie & Stump
Magpie & Stump is a laid-back Mexican spot with surprisingly good cauliflower tacos. They have coloring pages and crayons while you wait, and a great kids’ menu. We had quick and friendly service. The atmosphere is fun, but it can be a bit loud. We sat at a back table, and that helped.
8. Bear Street Tavern
Bear Street Tavern restaurant has cozy pub vibes and some of the best gluten-free pizza around. It has a great kids’ menu and relatively quick service. It’s a great lunch or dinner option after hiking Tunnel Mountain!
Tips to Save Money Eating in Canmore with Kids
Choose one or two meals per day to eat out, and then get groceries at the local stores to cover the rest of the meals. Eating out for lunch instead of dinner to take advantage of lunch pricing is a great way to save on the cost of a meal.
If your kids are younger (and not teenagers like mine with bottomless pits for stomachs), you can split an entree between kids. Skip the drinks and appetizers. The water in Banff is delicious and clean and often included for free with your meal. Get a dessert for the table instead of one for each person.
We put all of our transactions on our Venture X to earn 2x on all purchases, and so we don’t have to pay foreign transaction fees. You can use these points to fund your next trip or get a statement credit to cover the cost of food for a true $0 out-of-pocket trip.
